Soo Visual Arts Center

2909 Bryant Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55408

Soo Visual Arts Center has been a collaborator and partner with several of Kim Bartmann’s restaurants over the years- from block parties to lit crawls to a pop up gallery. Currently, SooVAC is curating art at Gigi’s Restaurant. This spring’s exhibition features artists Anna Biedenbender and Lissa Karpeh. If you are interested in exhibiting your work at Gigi’s, email

Anna Biedenbender is an artist currently based in the Twin Cities, MN, with a studio at the Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis. Anna holds a B.A. from Wisconsin Lutheran College and an M.F.A. from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Anna has shown her work throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Biedenbender works from multiple sources – referencing photographs, direct observation, and other renderings. She combines and translates this information through painting and drawing. This process is part depiction, improvisation, and alteration, so the work hovers between clarity and obscurity.

Lissa Karpeh has shown her work throughout Minnesota and Chicago and is currently finishing her BFA At Saint Cloud State University. Karpeh is a Liberian-American painter whose work explores interpersonal relations with self and other. Her inspiration comes from childhood memories, culture experiences and reflections. Her work considers the “what if’s and what is.”
